Did you know that the side on which you can lie down can make a difference to your health? If you suffer from hyper acidity then turning on the left side while lying down can be really beneficial to you. In many yogic poses it is mentioned that while getting up from a pose you should get up from the left side. In Ayurveda also it is said that you should lie on the left side. I like many other people used to think that it does not matter if you lie on the left or the right side. But recently I have come to realize that it does actually make a difference when we lie on the left side after food.
In human beings the stomach is located on the left hand side of the body and as we know when we eat food it first reaches the stomach. If we lie down on the left hand side after having food the assimilation and the digestion process is at ease and happens in a better manner. Since the stomach is in sync with the gravity when we are lying on the left side and rests on the abdominal wall the full energy is spent on the digestive process. If you eat your lunch or dinner and then lie down on the right side, the stomach presses against the Liver and that puts more pressure on the Liver also. Since Liver is one of the main sources of the digestive juices it will affect the digestive process also because of this.
Another advantage of lying on the left side is for those of you who suffer from hyper acidity frequently. When we lie on the left side due to the structure of the stomach the digestive acids are unlikely to reach the esophagus from where it can rise and cause heart burn and other problems. However when we lie on the right hand side the stomach is in a way suspended and the chances of digestive acids entering the esophagus are much more.
If you are suffering from high blood pressure and want to control it then let me suggest a simple solution. After the lunch lie down on the left side for 10 minutes and then get up and take a walk for few minutes.
This way the digestion starts in a normal manner without stressing the body and which in turn reduces the stress levels in the mind and overall system. When we eat and start working we are sending sub conscious signal to the body that we are stressed and that increases the blood pressure over time. However when we lie down after the food we send a signal that we are relaxed and all is fine. This calms us down and the blood pressure is reduces naturally.
